The Junior Squad - Effective from 1 October 2017

The Junior Squad is for swimmers aged 11 or under at the end of the current calendar year. Exceptionally older swimmers may be accepted at the discretion of the Head Coach.

Aim: To develop stroke technique and fitness to enable competitive swimming.

Squad Criteria

Swimmers should be able to:

  • Show that they understand the stroke principles of Backstroke, Breaststroke, Front Crawl and Butterfly.
  • Swim 100m (without stopping) of Backstroke, Breaststroke, Front Crawl and 50m of Butterfly showing reasonable technique and in accordance with the FINA rules for each stroke.
  • Show they are capable of swimming 3 x 200m at a constant pace with minimal rest.
  • Understand simple instructions and maintain concentration for 60 minutes.
  • Maintain basic lane discipline (5 seconds between swimmers/clockwise and anticlockwise in the odd and even numbered lanes.)
  • Show good attendance.
  • Show commitment to competing at Open Meets and representing the Club at galas and league fixtures( e.g. Mini-Leagues).
  • Be self-motivated to achieve the goals set out for them.

Target Attendance: 3 sessions per week
