Meet your 2018 Captains

Ladies Captain Ana Victoria Anderson

Ladies Captain - Ana Victoria Anderson

Hi, I’m Ana V and I’m your Captain for this year. I love the club and consider everyone a second family. My aim is to bring everyone closer together and for everyone to have good time, both parents and swimmers alike.

This year I hope to see the club prosper and be the best it can possibly be. I want everyone to enjoy their time at the club and remember you can talk to me or anyone else from the Captain Team if you have concerns. “Races can be lost. Records will be broken. The attitude, character and legendary work ethic you develop along the way is what you take with you.”-Anonymous

Men's Captain Thomas Grieve

Mens Captain - Thomas Grieve

Hi! My name is Tom Grieve and I have been swimming for Colchester Swimming Club since September 2012 after moving back to England after living overseas for 5 years. I am 17 years old.

I am very grateful to been given the opportunity to remain captain for another year. My aim as Captain for this year is to help ensure every swimmer at the club has a fun and memorable time and to help them achieve their goals. I believe strongly in good sportsmanship and hope to inspire our swimmers to become good sportsmen/women.

During the time that I have been swimming at the club, I have represented the club at Mini Leagues, the Essex County Championships, Essex Relays, the East Region Championships and the National Arena League. The Arena League is one of my favourite events as it has tends to have such a great atmosphere. I also enjoy helping out and coaching our much younger swimmers at the at the Club and at the Academy. I am here to help our swimmers achieve their goals as young athletes and to motivate them to train hard and reach their goals.

Ladies Vice Captain - Abbie McCarthy

Hi! My name is Abbie McCarthy and I am one of your Ladies Vice Captain for this Swimming year. I have been swimming here since I was 8 years old and I am now 15. I have had an amazing and memorable time at Colchester Swimming Club and hope to make more amazing memories.

My aim is to make everyone’s time here fun and memorable and to help them reach their full potential. I strongly believe in good sportsmanship and team spirit in galas and hope to inspire our swimmers to become good sportsmen/women. I would also like to promote good lane etiquette and effort in training so all swimmers can enjoy swimming here.

Since I started swimming at Colchester Swimming Club I have competed in a range of different galas being; Mini leagues, Essex County Championships, East Region Championships, Swim England National Championships and The National Arena League, that I all thoroughly enjoyed competing in. I also help out at The Colchester Swimming Academy helping out the coaches teaching the little ones to swim. I am hoping to do a coaching course once I turn 16 but have completed my Timekeeping course and I am completing my Level 1 Judges Course. I hope everyone can make the most out of there experience here, but most of all work hard and have fun!

Mens Vice Captain - Jamie Coles

Hi, I’m Jamie Coles and I’m one of your new vice captains this year. I have been part of this club for almost 10 years now and have enjoyed every moment of it, as I hope you have too. My favourite stroke is breastroke, but I like swim to all the strokes (not very far though!)

During my time as vice captain I am looking forward to seeing and helping everyone develop as a swimmer not only in the pool but out as well. Not only do I want to help you develop as individuals, I want to build a strong and motivated team that encourage each other to achieve their greatest and to support one another when they may have not have swum their greatest.

As we will all be spending numerous hours in the pool together working towards our goals I want everyone to enjoy the time they spend training (even through the sets.) As trust me when you get older you will look back at those memories and be glad they happened. I aim to help you develop those memories as the previous captains did for me. Finally never hesitate to ask me or the other captains a question or give us any suggestions (swimmer or parent) we're here to help! I'm looking forward to seeing you all pushing yourselves to the best you can be, training hard, good team spirit, but most of all...having fun!

Ladies Vice Captain - Olivia Norman

Hello! My name is Olivia Norman (but most people call me Livi) and I have been a member of Colchester Swimming Club since I was 7 years old. I am now 15 and am in Year 11 at CCHSG.

I have represented the Club at every level from Mini League to British Championships and have also represented Essex County and the East Region at national events.

I am really pleased to be part of the Captain’s Team this year and hope I can put my experience and enthusiasm for swimming to good use.

Mens Vice Captain - Nick Mitchell

Hi, I’m Nick Mitchell and I will be your vice-captain for the upcoming year. I have been swimming competitively for Colchester for almost 10 years now but have been involved with the club for most of my life when my sister swam before me. My favourite stroke has always and will always be breaststroke in all distances. I also enjoy IM and fly but in common with most breaststrokers I’m not a fan of backstroke. So, if you want breaststroke advice, or general swimming advice, feel free to ask me but if you are after backstroke advice I would advise you to ask one of my fellow captains.

As a vice-captain I would like to see everyone get involved with the club wherever possible no matter your age, ability or the squad you are in, or even if you are a parent sitting poolside. I would encourage you to attend training, open meets and galas you have been selected for as much as possible as I have found the more I put in the more enjoyment I get, and I hope you find this too.

Finally, I would like to wish you all good luck with your swimming, remember to support, encourage and respect all your teammates and above all have a good time!
